Equador (Race 7, Rosehill)

Write off the first lady of racing at your own peril! We should have seen this one coming. Gai Waterhouse clearly made this the target race for this 6 year old High Chaparral gelding. She gave him two runs over 1300m to start his prep following by two runs over the mile split by a trial. Then today he tough his rivals a lesson. Bounced out of the barriers to go straight to the lead where the underrated Adam Hyeronimus literally put him to sleep. Once the field looked to changed gears at the 600m mark he tightened the reins and the horse duly responded. He didn’t give him a genuine crack of the him until the 300m mark and it certainly worked. Equadir instantly pulled 3 lengths clear and held on for a comfortable win. We will keep a close eye on him.

Missed the start on this occasion and had to make up a heap of ground. Went the long way around them and came from virtually last to finish within a length of the winner. Will be at the peak of his powers next start. Read More…
