Bernard Tomic returned to his rain suspended match with Fernando Verdasco and went up 5 – 3 in the fifth set in just over half an hour before weather again brought a halt to the proceedings.

After a four hour delay for rainy weather, Tomic brought the match to a positive conclusion, from his perspective at any rate, winning 4 – 6 6 – 3 6 – 3 6 – 4.

Tomic, despite his claim that he does not enjoy playing against lefthanders, has beaten the former number 8 ranked Verdasco five out of six times the two have played each other.

Verdasco served the first game of the fifth set, but even as light rain began to fall, Tomic gained the edge by breaking Verdasco in the fifth game. Tomic then went up four games to two.

On his next service game, Tomic allowed Verdasco five break points, but managed to stave off all before the match was again halted.

The critical game was the eighth of the fifth set, a very emotionally and physically draining game on Tomic’s serve at 4 – 3. After holding, he was able to serve out the match.

Unfortunately, for The Championships, attendance has been hampered by weather so bad that there is no queue to get inside, and only centre court offers the luxury of a retractable roof.
