Forget Tom Hardy and Idris Elba, fans are calling for former professional footballer David Beckham to slide into a tux and fill the shoes of the outgoing Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.

And online bookmaker Sportsbet.com.au says he’s a chance, slashing his odds from 150/1 to 80/1 after the Englishman declared he’d love to play the role of the martini sipping, woman swooning special agent.

After a cameo in Guy Ritchie’s ‘Man from U.N.C.L.E’ and a significant speaking role in the upcoming ‘Knights of the Roundtable’, Beckham has spoken of his love for acting and his desire to take on some bigger challenges, including that of James Bond.

But before he gets to don the tuxedo, he’ll need to beat out some stiff competition, with more well-known actors, Henry Cavill ($3.00) and Tom Hardy ($4.00) heavily backed to get the nod. While on the home front, the brothers from Summer Bay, Liam and Chris Hemsworth are both $51 to secure the role.

“He’s certainly got the dashing looks to play Bond, and as we know, there are plenty of attractive actors out there that can’t act, so he’s every chance to get the gig”, said sportsbet.com.au’s Richard Hummerston.
