The Melbourne Storm seems to have lost interest in Kieran Foran, choosing not to seek the mercurial Warriors’ five-eighth.
The Storm’s Coach, Craig Bellamy, never one to shun a challenge, expressed interest and seemed to be of the belief that he could add a rudder to the drifting ship that is Foran’s career in the NRL.
The Foran idea was as a replacement to outgoing halfback Cooper Cronk, but management at the club level did not seem to share Bellamy’s enthusiasm.
It seems mostly a case of a conservative perspective of the part of the Storm, who have devoted quite a bit of effort and energy into building a successful rugby operation in Victoria. They seem reluctant to put that success at risk for a player whose personal issues seem to be on the right path, but are of a nature where a relapse could derail their well-laid plans.
Cooling to Foran might indicate that the Storm will shift their focus to disgruntled Dragons’ playmaker Gareth Widdop, who is not satisfied with the value he is perceived to represent to St. George Illawarra.
Widdop is a known entity to the Storm, having played junior level rugby for them and 70 games at the senior NRL level.
