Punters are jumping off one Chris Waller trained horse for another, abandoning favourite Hawkspur in favour of stablemate Royal Descent, following the barrier draw for the 2013 BMW Caulfield Cup.

A $4.20 chance before the barrier draw, Hawkspur immediately eased to $4.40 at Sportingbet after drawing gate 16, but has since drifted further to $4.80. Royal Descent firmed from $7 into $6.50 after drawing favourably in gate 3.

“Hawkspur was going back in the race regardless of the draw but this makes his assignment that much more difficult and it will be tough for him to win from there,” William Hill’s Andrew Brown said.

“Nash Rawiller can put Royal Descent exactly where he wants her and she now looks the horse to beat,” Brown said.

“There won’t be much between them in betting come Saturday based on the money we’ve taken since the draw,” Brown said.

New Zealand mare Silent Achiever firmed from $9 into $8 at Sportingbet after drawing gate 5. Dandino eased from $7.50 out to $8.
