As if golf was not sufficiently diffiuclt, the World Super 6 golf tournament beginning tomorrow at Lake Karrinyup, in the Perth vicinity, has added a new wrinkle to the game, with a format so outside the box that it threatens to move into the realm of a sporting affair combining the rules of cricket and polo played on electric cycles by blindfolded celebrities.
The World Super 6 starts on Thursday with conventional stroke play. It then moves to match play featuring the top 24 players from the stroke play rounds. On the final day, a knockout round with potential tiebreakers including a closest-to-the-pin contest will decide the winner. Or maybe, from what we can discern, winners.
The tournament has the blessing of the European, Asian and PGA of Australia tours, but it seems one important detail has been overlooked.

The strength of the field is not especially strong, as the winner will only collect $244,000.
The tournament does not suffer from a lack of uniqueness, not by any stretch. The cerebral capacities of the officials and the players will face a strong test as the first cut on Friday following two round of stroke play will be followed by an additional cut from 65 to 24 players for a six-hole match play format on Sunday.
Ties from the final day will be decided by a closest-to-the-pin shootout on a specially built hole.
