As the countdown to the 2014 Melbourne Cup Carnival begins in earnest, Flemington will host a special trackwork event at 6.00am Tuesday 28 October.
Some of the world’s best thoroughbreds will have their final hit-outs ahead of the prestigious Melbourne Cup Carnival in front of their trainers, media and VRC Members.
The course proper will be open from daylight on Tuesday for all Flemington-trained horses and internationals contesting the AAMI Victoria Derby, Longines Mackinnon Stakes, Myer Classic, Emirates Melbourne Cup, Coolmore Stud Stakes and Darley Classic.
Champion Irish trained sprinter Slade Power, now based at Flemington after successfully completing his quarantine at Werribee, will be put through the barriers at approximately 7:30am and galloped over 800m. His trainer, Ed Lynam, arrived in Melbourne Monday and will be in attendance for trackwork.
The VRC will provide a hot breakfast and Lavazza coffee for media and industry participants in the Lawn Stand from 6am.
The VRC is providing trainers with named saddlecloths and a race caller to assist in identifying horses working, and will assist media to facilitate interviews.
