After all the attention he attracted during the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament as a representative for France’s national side, Kylian Mbappe has discovered that the limelight is to his liking.
He was again a teenage prodigy when he netted four times for his Paris Saint-Germain side delivered a 5 – 0 sledging to Lyon on Sunday.
Four goals is an impressive haul in a tournament, it is exceptional over the course of one match.
Mbappe secured his four-bagger in the space of 13 minutes during the second half.
PSG has established a record of nine straight wins, tops by a French top-flight club.
Mbappe was of the opinion that he should have scored more.
He was making reference to several earlier chances he had when he found himself with just Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes between him and the back of the net. One thing or another denied the young sensation during the earlier phases of the match.
“I missed opportunities, I should have scored more,” he told Canal+. “I keep working and I never doubted. I knew I had the support of my teammates. I often say that as long as an attacker is creating chances, everything is fine.”
So much football wisdom from the mouth of such a babe.
The opposition simply needs to do a better job at marking him, as he has already scored eight times from five appearances in his regular job with PSG in Ligue 1 play.
In rising to the top of the table, PSG obviously has plenty of support around Mbappe, as they are eight points clear from second-placed LOSC Lille. PSG has yet to be beaten or drawn at this stage.
Mbappe said as much when he said, “It was the work of the whole team, but the most important thing was the record,” he added. “I insist we talk about the collective, we will have time to talk about me, Neymar.We wanted to win, we wanted this record at all costs.”
The record to which he was referring was one of 82 years and was established by Olympique Lillois in 1936.
