The squad for game one next Wednesday of State of Origin for Queensland was announced by Coach Kevin Walters.

Two players were selected to debut in the match against New South Wales. Centre Justin O’Neill of North Queensland will take the role formerly occupied be retired great Justin Hodges and Corey Oates of the Brisbane Giants will start on the left win.

Darius Boyd will be the fullback.

The news was met with enthusiasm by Maroons captain Cameron Smith. He was quick to mention that he felt that both O’Neill and Oates were deserving of the selection.

The announcement was made at a dinner Tuesday night.

Dane Gagai, who made his first Origin appearance last year when the Maroons had little trouble disposing of the Blues in a 52 – 6 affair, will remain in his place on the wing. They will also retain prop Nate Myles, even though he has struggled at the club level for Manly. His team spirit is considered a valuable asset, even if he has struggled at times, and his potential to turn in a big performance at any time is something that cannot be ignored.

Greg Inglis, Jonathan Thurston, Cooper Cronk, Matt Scott, Cameron Smith, Nate Myles, Matt Gillett, Sam Thaiday, Corey Parker, Michael Morgan, Josh McGuire, Aidan Guerra, Josh Papalii and Jacob Lillyman are the other players named to the squad.
