The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) will host a stable media call at 9.00am Friday (11 September), ahead of Saturday’s Sofitel Girls’ Day Out featuring the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.

Media are invited to Flemington to speak with leading South Australian trainer Tony McEvoy, capture imagery of Alpine Eagle, and speak with rising star jockey Damien Lane at 9.00am.

Much of the focus in the lead-up to the VRC’s first Group 1 race of the season—which features 10 individual Group 1 winners—is on the Tony McEvoy-trained Alpine Eagle.

Alpine Eagle was last seen at Flemington in March, when an impressive fast finishing second in the Group 1 Australian Guineas. Owned by legendary winemaker Wolf Blass, the four-year-old is currently the $8 second favourite with the TAB behind Chris Waller’s Boban ($4.20).

Young rider on the rise Damien Lane, recently returned from a stint riding in Hong Kong, will pilot Group 1 winner and Caulfield Cup runner up Rising Romance ($10), trained by David Hayes and Tom Dabernig, in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes.

Lane has a full book of rides including Gregers (Hayes & Dabernig) in the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality, Niminypiminy (Russell Cameron) in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes and Reemah (Hayes & Dabernig) in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes.
