Jason Day took a major step ahead in his quest to defend his Major championship victory in the 2015 U.S. PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin by shooting his third consecutive round in the 60s in this year’s edition at Baltusrol in New Jersey. Day could join Tiger Woods as the only other play to win the PGA consecutively since the tournament went to medal play in 1958.

He backed his first-round 68 with a 65 in the second round, and then carded a 67 when he played and finished the third round on Sunday morning as the tournament continues to deal with torrential rains.

The water has turned the usually tough course into target practice for the pros, with receptive greens providing many birdie opportunities. Even though it is set up to par 70, which typically negates the advantages big hitters such as Day usually enjoy on set ups with four par fives, the soft conditions mean that Day’s towering approach shots are sticking like darts.

Day is at minus 10 going into the final round. Only Jimmy Walker at minus 11 enjoys an advantage on Day. British Open winner Henrik Stenson continues his hot play and is lurking at minus nine, along with American Brooks Koepka.

Day will be paired with Robert Streb in the final round, who is at minus seven.

Adam Scott and Scott Hend are at minus four. John Senden and Marc Leishman are having strong performances at minus three and minus two, respectively.

Aaron Baddeley, Marcus Fraser, Matt Jones and Greg Chalmers are out of the picture, with Chalmers failing to make the cut.
