All the pros are complaining vociferously over the lightning-fast putting greens they are encountering on the Pete Dye designed TPC Sawgrass course in Florida being used for the Players Championship.
Jason Day had the fewest complaints, as he used the severe conditions to build on his second-round total that raised discussions about all-time tournament scoring records. The course conditions on the first two days of the Players were ideal for low scoring, so it would appear that the dry conditions that found more three-putts in the third round than for the first two rounds combined was the primary source of agony for the pros.
Day managed to hold the lead despite a stretch of golf that included two double bogeys in a three span. Along with making several birdies on the way in to not only salvage the round, but also to solidify his lead in the tournament and world rankings.
Some of the other pros were turning in good rounds on Saturday, but they were a minority compared to the number who had gone low in the first two round.
Adam Scott trails Day by 12 strokes going into the final round, which has Scott well back in the field with every possibility of posting a strong finish.
