Through the first nine holes of the final round of the AT & T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Jason Day is moving the wrong direction, having lost two places to the field.
He is currently tied fifth and is one under on his round today.
The hot hand at the moment belongs to American Chez Reavie, who has moved up six places in the standing. Reavie currently trails Ted Potter, Jr. for the lead by two shots.
As for other Aussies in the field other than Day, Rod Pampling is tied for 47th and has moved up a couple of slots. He was so far back, however, that he was started on the 10th hole, in order to make room for the crowded field to have room to play the ocean side course.
Aaron Baddeley had a promising start to the tournament, but as has become an all too familiar pattern in the career of the 36-year-old, he has dropped five slots and even if he were to birdie his remaining holes, he could not hope to crack the top 20.
Cameron Percy and Greg Chalmers both failed to make the cut, as did Adam Scott, Stuart Appleby and Cameron Davis.
Matt Jones needed 220 shots to get through the first three rounds in the unique five-round format of the A T & T.
Marc Leishman was nowhere to be found and for reasons perhaps only he could explain, as he is fighting desperately to secure a spot in The Masters, Cameron Smith was busy elsewhere as he faces the difficult proposition of moving up to the top 50 in the rankings in order to gain entry to Augusta National in April.
As a former winner, Jason Day has an automatic entry to The Masters for as long as he continues to make an appearance in the first of the season’s Majors, but he has yet to recapture the form of 2015 that had him atop the world rankings.
