Japanese stayer Tosen Stardom has arrived in Sydney and gone into quarantine with plans of participating in the2000 metre G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick on 9 April.
Other than his sire, dam and grand dam, Tosen Stardom is of predominantly U.S. stock. He has raced before in Australia, with his best finish being in last year’s Ravnet Stakes, where he finished second to Contributer. He also had a go at the 2015 QE Stakes, finishing fifth.
Tosen Stardom is the only international horse making the trip for The Championships. To date, he has run 13 times and notched five wins, including twice as a three-year old in Japan at the G3 level.
He will be staying at Canterbury while he completes his quarantine period before his run on day two of The Championships.
The QE Stakes is the premier weight-for-age race being run on a day that offers $4 million in prize money, making it the world’s richest 2000-metre turf race. Last year, Tosen Stardom jumped at $9 carrying 58.5, just half a kilo less than top weight. He is currently priced at $15, fourth favourite, but has his work cut out for him if he is going to be able to give the $1.60 favourite Winx a workout.
