Leading Sydney Jockey James McDonald is odds on NOT to ride a Group 1 winner at Randwick on Saturday.

The champion rider dined out on five winners at Rosehill last week, but online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au has him priced at $1.50 not to win a major on the first day of The Championships.

Hong Kong based superstar Joao Moreira is $1.40 and local hoop Tommy Berry $2.10, not to bring home the bacon in a Group 1.

“James went within a neck of riding a Group 1 double last week, but he doesn’t have the same quality mounts this time. All three riders are world class, but they can’t get off and carry them,’’ said sportsbet.com.au’s Christian Jantzen.

It could be an emotional day for trainer Chris Waller if Sacred Falls can win his third consecutive Doncaster. Waller has teared up for lesser wins and he is $1.90 to cry when being interviewed.

The Aussies are favourites to exact some revenge in the Derby. Any Aussie horse is $1.37 to win the Group 1 ahead of the Kiwis (Volkstok’n’barrell, Mongolian Khan) at $3.00.
