Hawthorn CEO Stuart Fox will shortly become ex-Hawthorn CEO when he leaves that role to take up the reins as the new chief of the Melbourne Cricket Club.
Fox will assume the role of Stephen Gough, who served 17 years in the role of MCC chief.
His new duties will be the management of the MCG, the facility that could well be considered the ultimate in terms of a multi-venue stadium. He will serve the 120,000 members of the MCC and supervise the running of the National Sports Museum, Yarra Park and some other facilities in Melbourne.
Fox spent seven years as the CEO of the Hawks beginning in 2009. Prior, he was with the Geelong Cats for the better part of 10 years. During his tenure with Hawthorn, he presided over the operation that won three consecutive premierships from 2013 – 2015 and also can boast of seven consecutive years of increased membership. He will leave his current post at the end of February.
There has been quite a shake up in the upeer ranks of Hawthorn, as the high expectations that accompany consecutive premierships makes anything other than a flag seem like a failure. Chris Fagan departed as football operations manager to take over as the head coach of the Brisbane Lions. President Andrew Newbold left some time ago and the last trade period saw the departure of players Sam Mitchell and Jordan Lewis.
