When the time comes for bold predictions, former Wallaby leader James Horwill is to be commended for a complete lack of equivocation in his recent prediction of a 3 – 0 sweep of the English squad when they visit next month for three Tests.
Horwill at least can claim the benefit of an ideal vantage point, after playing 21 games and over 1500 minutes for the London-based club Harlequins. Horwill plays alongside Chris Robshaw, the scapegoat for England’s last World Cup failure and the two will be pairing up when the Harlequins travel to France to vie for the European Challenge Cup against Montpellier.
Wallaby coach Michael Cheika neglected to select Horwill for last year’s World Cup, but has made an overture toward Horwill as far as the next time around is concerned.
Horwill has seen firsthand what England World Cup coach Eddie Jones has been able to do from the respect of resurrecting the team. Along with Robshaw, Horwill has had considerable exposure to other potential English World Cuppers, including Danny Care, Mike Brown, Joe Marlar and Jack Clifford. Horwill predicts that the British squad will be a threat in all three tests, but still is willing to go out on the limb and predict a sweep for the Wallies.
Horwill apparently did not have anything to say, however, concerning the Wallabies’ potential versus the All Blacks.
