Alastair Lynch, a former standout for the Brisbane Lions’ premiership side, thinks that the Gold Coast Football Club should use their well-stocked inventory of high draft picks to secure the services of a marquee player, such as Nat Fyfe.

We cannot disagree with a player with 306 game and 633 goal notches in his belt, but Fyfe is damaged goods. The bulging disk in his back seems to be managed, but knee surgery that kept him out of all but five games in 2016 is cause for concern.

Fyfe recently went on record as saying he wants to remain with the Dockers, but right before that he was saying he was open to offers, so he is obviously doing the waltz to see if he can spike the bidding. He is contracted to the Dockers through 2017, so perhaps he is hoping to garner some loyalty dollars.

The Suns do have picks to play with and could end up with more than a few additional, depending on what they can get for Jaeger O’Meara and Dion Prestia.

Larger footy minds than ours will be cogitating the permutations, but a bum knee is a risk that never stops lurking.
