The finals matchup that everyone seemed to desire in Men’s Singles at the 2017 Australian Open is closer to fruition as Roger Federer, as he consistently has in the past, disposed of his compatriot Stan Wawrinka in five sets.

Federer seemed to be cruising into the final, winning the first two sets, but Wawrinka came back with a vengeance to win the third and fourth sets just as easily before Federer took the fifth set without too much bother.

In a few more hours, we will learn if Rafael Nadal can set up the fairytale ending by getting past Dimitrov. Sportsbet likes Nadal’s chances making him a $1.39 favourite to Dimitrov’s $3.04, but as we have seen in the past, on any given day…

The two have met eight times previously, with Nadal winning seven, but Dimitrov won the last encounter handily.

In the Ladies’ Australian Open final, it will be the Williams sisters meeting in a grand slam final for the ninth time. It has been a long interval since the last time the scenario occurred, a 2009 Wimbledon final where Serena beat Venus. Venus the slightly elder of the two has beaten her younger sibling in the U.S Open in 2001 and Wimbledon in 2008.
