The family of Michael Schumacher, the Formula One driver who suffered a serious head injury in a skiing accident in the French Alps in 2013, has disclosed the extent of his injuries in order to counter claims by a German tabloid magazine that say that Schumacher has undergone rehab treatments and is again capable of walking.

The family is suing the German magazine Bunte over the cover story in late 2015. A lawyer for the family submitted documents to a German court proving that Schumacher needs assistance simply to stand, much less walk.

The Schumacher family is also suing over invasion of privacy issues.

Michael Schumacher was skiing in France at the Mirabel ski resort when he crashed on the slopes. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital in Grenoble, where he underwent two surgeries and was placed in a medically induced coma for six months.

A full-time staff now cares for Schumacher at his family home in Lake Geneva and there is hope that he will one day make a partial recovery.

Bunte based its story on an anonymous friend of Schumacher, who told the magazine that Schumacher could walk with the help of therapists and could also raise one of his arms.
