The Diamonds are not content to rest on laurels in any way shape or form, after a loss of composure almost called time on their winning run in the Quad netball series where South Africa came close to pulling off an upset, the likes of which had not been seen in close to 50 years.
Even though the Diamonds won 62 – 46, it was the smallest winning margin in many years, with 20 of the previous victories featuring margins of over 30 goals. Not since the six-goal margin in the first Test between Australia and South Africa has there been such a close affair.
The win over South Africa came following a first round victory by the Diamonds against New Zealand, which was at 57 – 50 another close game.
The diamonds will have to be on their game when they have to take the long ride to Wembley to play England.
The travel demands are intense, as players will have only eight days to rest, recuperate, and prepare for the start of the Super Netball competition on February 18.
Coach Lisa Alexander claimed that the Diamonds were adversely affected by the frenetic pace of the South Africans, which led to poor decisions and the obvious need to work on some fixes before their next Test against England.
