Affairs did not go swimmingly for the Aussie cricketers on day three of the fourth Test at Dharamsala. The better word might be “drowningly.”
The Indians were dominant on day three and the Aussies now have their proverbial backs to the proverbial wall.
In the first session, the Indians secured a 32-run lead with their batting before ripping through the Aussie batters for 137, leaving a target of just 106.
The only glimmer of hope for the tourists was Glenn Maxwell (45) and Matthew Wade (25 not out).
Things turned sour in a second innings collapse that aw David Warner caught for just six when he could get nothing going against a barrage of Indian bouncers.
Things went further downhill from that juncture, with Captain Steve Smith and Matt Renshaw, like Warner, unable to gain anything even closely resembling the momentum needed.
By the time tea was on, the Aussies saw a 5 – 92 hole.
This, despite the Indians losing four wickets for 15 runs in the first session, yet somehow improbably managed to take a first innings lead.
Indian is now tantalisingly close to securing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and it is up to the Aussies to conjure some sort of miracle in order to keep the series alive.
