With some tough times hopefully behind him, David Swallow has renewed his contract with the Gold Coast Suns for the next three seasons.

Swallow missed the entirety of the 2016 season and played only six games in 2015 with a knee issue.

As he comes back to full fitness, Swallow hopes to resume the position as the club’s best and fairest that he occupied in 2014.

He has been with the Suns’ club since he was 16, eight years now, since he moved from Perth to Gold Coast to play for the Suns’ VFL team. He was the club’s number one selection in 2010, the year the Suns made their debut in the AFL.

Swallow played 21 senior games in 2011, but only got on the ground 12 times in 2012, when he sat out rounds eight through 15 and 21 – 22.

His best season without doubt was 2014, when he made 23 appearances and accumulated 53 disposals and 15 goals, although he did not figure in the Brownlow voting to any appreciable degree.

If he can stay healthy, which, given the nature of knee injuries, is not forgone conclusion, he is in the prime of his years as a footballer, and will be still when he concludes playing under his current deal in 2019.
