Some fairly competent professional golfers came together in the week following the Australian Open to play a team event known as the World Cup of Golf at Kingston Heath in the suburban districts of southeast Melbourne.
The event was won by two blokes from Denmark (Denmarkians?), Soren Kjeldsen and Thorbjorn Olesen, who went into the final day four shots clear of Yanks Rickie Fowler and Jimmy Walker.
The two men were chased hard by several other teams on their way to the victory. Their lead was down to one stroke at the beginning of the final nine, but they reeled off six birdies on the back in the best-ball format to bring their aggregate for the four rounds in at 268.
The two U.S. players were caught and tied for second by the Chinese players Wu Ashun and Li Haotong, and also by the due from France, Victor Dubisson and Romain Langasque, all three teams at 272.
The Australian pair of Marc Leishman and Adam Scott managed to shoot a 65 on the final day, but they were far behind the leaders in a tie for ninth.
Adam Scott teamed with Jason Day to win the event in 2013, when it was held at Royal Melbourne.
