Daniel Rich seems ready to assume leadership responsibility for the Brisbane Lions. Someone needs to.

Rich joined the club when premiership players Jonathan Brown, Luke Power and Simon Black were writing the final chapters of their careers and Rich hopes to pass on the counseling he received from that trio to the current crop of young players that are taking their knocks as the Lions struggle to avoid this year’s wooden spoon.

The Lions got past the Bombers when the two sides met in Round 18, gaining a leg up and Rich was permitted to run free at halfback and play the role of quarterback, not unlike Luke Hodge, running up 27 disposals, nine intercepts and nine rebound 50s when the Lions beat the Bombers 128 – 91 in front of a nice crowd of 35,000 at Etihad Stadium.

It was only the second win of the 2016 AFL season for the Brisbane side, so the MLB refrain of “Wait ‘til next year!” would apply, it seems.

Rich was the 2009 Rising Star and is currently a part of the leadership group for the Lions that are attempting to serve as mentors to the extensive number of young players on the Lions’ list.
