The Adelaide Crows, already moving into the home run to the finals with a remaining schedule against predominantly bottom-rung teams, saw their prospects of a top-four finish leap upward when they sent the visiting Kangaroos back to North Melbourne with a loss.
A rain-soaked Adelaide Oval made kicking accuracy hard to come by for the Crows, but they won a war of attrition and ran over the Roos in the final term to post their fifth consecutive win by the score of 12.28 (100) to 10.7 (67).
The fourth term was all Crows. They kicked four goals to North’s one, kicking 4.10 to 1.1.
Once again, their renewed focus on defense courtesy of Coach Don Pyke’s philosophy, helped to keep an opponent to under 100, well under in this instance.
The Crows may have felt revenge served for the loss when the two teams met in Round 1 on the Roos ground.
The Roos are staggering more than a bit, having lost its fourth game from the past five, their most recent win coming in Round 11 against the Tigers.
Barring a stumble against one of the bottom eight teams, the Crows have only Geelong in three rounds’ time and West Coast at the last in terms of top-flight competition.
