The Bulldogs are reportedly out to snatch the “big four” from the Wests Tigers, something that will do little to tame the traditional hostility betwixt the two sides.
Canterbury has made overtures to James Tedesco, Mitchell Moses, Luke Brooks and Aaron Woods, hoping to lure the quartet to Belmore for the 2018 season.
Wests Tigers have been expending all possible energy to retain the four players, but they are certainly going to test the water to see what the market will provide in terms of value for the four off-contract players.
It is difficult to conceive exactly how the Bulldogs would fit all four players into their club, but it might be part of a scheme to get two of the four, as much to hurt the Tigers as to help their own cause.
As it always is, the salary cap is the main determining criterion and with the types of salaries, the four are likely to command/demand, there does not seem to be cap space to accommodate all four.
It would almost seem simpler to simply have the Bulldogs and the Tigers switch towns and save all the financial wrangling. That sort of move has taken place in the NFL at times, as it can require serious geographical knowledge to know which city the Rams are located at any given time.
