Brownlow Medal Betting Remains Suspended At Sportingbet

Betting on the 2014 Brownlow Medal remains suspended at online bookmaker Sportingbet.com.au pending the outcome of a Round 10 incident involving Gold Coast Suns captain Gary Ablett.

Ablett was a clear-cut $1.80 favourite at Sportingbet to win this year’s Brownlow Medal before betting was suspended, the shortest price a player has ever been this early in the season.

Sportingbet’s AFL analysts estimate Ablett has polled up to 18 votes this season, which would place him 5 votes clear of Sydney’s Josh Kennedy who was an $8 second favourite at Sportingbet before betting was suspended. Geelong’s ineligible contender Steve Johnson currently sits third on Sportingbet’s vote count, meaning if Ablett was to be suspended that Kennedy would be the new favourite ahead of Collingwood’s Scott Pendlebury.

“Should Ablett become ineligible then Kennedy will be the new $5 favourite with Pendlebury just behind him at $6,” Sportingbet’s Andrew Brown said.

“It’s remarkable that two of the top three players in our vote count after ten rounds could be out of contention.”

Sportingbet’s analysts gave three players three votes for their Round 10 performances, with Jimmy Bartel, Jack Riewoldt and Kade Simpson all being awarded the maximum.
