In what is slowly becoming a vanishing breed, Parramatta Eels Coach Brad Arthur is still juggling the roles of coaching the side he has, along with playing a big part in the recruitment process.
Arthur’s coaching style requires a certain style of player and he has a hands-on approach, even though he does have some degree of assistance in the form of recruitment specialist Pater Sharp.
Unlike say, for example, the Illawarra Dragons, where Paul McGregor has little involvement in personnel decisions, Arthur is happy to have the opportunity to supply input.
Commenting during a Market Watch podcast, Arthur told everyone that, “Our roster has been a work in progress for a lot of years. Peter Sharp heads up our recruitment team and does a very good job with that. At the end of the day we have a style of footy that we like to play and I like to coach. We need to get players to complement that and I feel that I need to be a big part of that process and I’m fortunate that I’m allowed to be.”
Arthur first signed on with the Eels in 2012 and took the reins as head coach after the 2013 season. The Eels are unbeaten thus far in the 2017 NRL Telstra Premiership competition and will try to remain that way when the play the winless Gold Coast Titans this week.
