Australians are getting behind Richie Porte, with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au reporting nearly twice as much money on the Aussie compared to race favourite Vincenzo Nibali.

The Italian is priced at $1.22 following the withdrawal of Alberto Contador, however Porte is second favourite at $6.50, after beginning the Tour as a $67 outsider.

More than twice as many single bets have been wagered on Porte as opposed to Nibali despite the Italian taking out Stage 10 overnight.

Some of the big bets on Richie Porte include:

· $700 at $51

· $600 at $51

· $200 at $51

· $100 at $67

“The money coming for Porte has been extraordinary! As soon as Chris Froome withdrew, the Aussie became a real contender, and the market suggests it’s a two-man race between Porte and Nibali,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Christian Jantzen.
