Champion mare Atlantic Jewel is an easing favourite for Saturday’s Sportingbet Cox Plate with Sportingbet Australia pushing her price out from $2.25 to $2.40.

“There is no doubt she is the one to beat but we don’t think she is a $2.25 chance. The punters love her but this is the biggest test of her career, a high pressure race against the best horses in the land so we are happy to take her on,” Sportingbet’s Michael Felgate said.

“I think Atlantic Jewel will continue to drift this week and we’ll see good money for Fiorente and It’s A Dundeel to beat her.”

Fiorente is currently second favourite at $5.50 with It’s A Dundeel $6.

“If It’s A Dundeel puts in another impressive gallop at Moonee Valley on Tuesday morning he will definitely shorten in the market. He beat Atlantic Jewel last start and was a $3.40 Cox Plate chance before his hoof abscess so $6 looks value,” Felgate said.

With Glen Boss set to miss the ride, Puissance De Lune has also been shunned by punters.

“He is out to $6.50 and could drift further without Boss in the saddle, we haven’t taken many bets on him in the last few days.”

Three year-old Long John continues to be well supported firming from $17 into $13 since confirmation he would run in the race.
