We have not forgotten about the AFLW, not entirely, at any rate.
The competition is in the trade period and it looks as though the lady Roos have persuaded a couple of the lady Demons to cross the street and switch sides.
The Kangaroos have secured defender Jasmine Grierson, along with Emma Humphries and the 54th pick of the next draft in exchange for picks 12 and 47.
The shift means that the Roos, by giving up the 12th selection, will have to hope for the best when they select with the 25th pick.
North seems intent on improving the list, getting 2018 AFLW best and fairest Emma Kearney from the Dogs.
Four will migrate south from the Brisbane Lions. All-Australian ruck Emma King is leaving the Pies and WB premiership player Jenna Burton will join the side for the 2019 AFLW Premiership competition.
With so many new faces joining, it would tend to suggest that the Roos will stand pat, but list manager Rhys Harwood indicates that there may be other switches afooty.
They may move Grierson from defender to midfield.
“We believe she will continue to develop and build on her terrific start to her AFLW career,” Harwood said.“She will give us a different look with her flexibility, and ability inside the contest.Above all, Jas is an outstanding person who we couldn’t be more excited to bring to the club.”
We are not sure what that last bit implies. So far as we know, the other Roos were decent sorts, perhaps even dinkum at the least.
Harwood almost made the acquisition of Humphries sound like a public relations move.
“She has established herself as one of the premier players in the Tasmanian State League Women’s (TSLW) so she will be an important player for us and will serve as an important role model to the young Tasmanian players and AFLW hopefuls,” Harwood said.“It will be really special when Emma has the opportunity to return to Tassie and play in front of her home crowd next season.”
