Almost 60,000 fans were present to see the Magpies beat the Cats 104 – 80 and the Crows had an impressive outing against the Suns, posting a 149 – 74 win, although the Suns’ Metricon Stadium was largely devoid of spectators, drawing fewer than 12,000.
Fremantle supporters mostly stayed home, as Domain Stadium attracted only 20,000 stalwarts who braved torrential rain and potential high waters to see the Dockers establish a low water record for having the worst start to a season following a minor premiership.
