The Western Bulldogs can breathe a sigh of relief after surviving a scare from the Collingwood Magpies where the difference was three behinds and the final score 95 – 92.
The Brisbane Lions and the Carlton Blues also provided an entertaining match that the Lions son 99 – 95 as both teams run out the string on lost seasons.
Most of Melbourne turned out to the MCG to watch the Hawks coast to a 96 – 57 victory over North Melbourne, a game which affected the ladder not one bit, with the Hawks remaining on top and the Roos clinging to the eighth finals spot.
The Greater Western Sydney Giants and the team from West Coast staged the game of the week, with the Eagles winning by one behind, 97 – 96. The two are tied at 56 points and have identical 14/6 won/lost records, but the Giants enjoy a substantial edge in percentage.
The Swans rolled mercilessly over the Saints, 146 – 76 to preserve their number two position one game behind the Hawks, whom they have outscored and held opponents to far fewer points.
The Demons paid a visit to Port Adelaide and acted like rude guests in handing the Power and 94 – 54 loss.
The Bombers won their second game of the season, beating Gold Coast 75 – 69.
The Geelong Cats got more competition than desired from the Richmond Tigers, but prevailed 82 – 78 despite two fewer majors on the strength of a 22 – 6 advantage in behinds.
The Crows disposed of the Dockers 142 – 70.
