We just recently took a look at Round 19 of the 2017 Toyota AFL Premiership competition fixture looking for action and came up empty.
For the top eight teams, it almost seems like a bye week, but they do have to take the ground, so we will call it a semi-bye week.
Number one Adelaide Crows play the number 13 Collingwood Magpies at the MCG. If the game gets out of hand, look to see some of the Crows’ stars have a blow in the third and fourth quarters.
The Geelong Cats, still holding onto the number two spot, have the number 16 Carlton Blues, where they will walk into Etihad Stadium as the decided favourites. The Cats are carrying a price of $1.22 to $4.50 for the Blues.
Number 3 Greater Western Sydney Giants will play the number 14 Fremantle Dockers at Spotless Stadium, $1.14 to $6.00, with the Giants carrying 39.5 points favourtism.
Number 4 Richmond will play the number 15 Gold Coast Suns. Enough said.
Number 5 Port Adelaide Power has the number 11 St. Kilda Saints touring the Adelaide Oval. The Saints have lost their last two, including a 61-point embarrassment to the Essendon Bombers, but this may be the closest thing to a decent match for dispassionate observers.
The number six Sydney Swans have the number 13 Hawthorn Hawks. It is doubtful that the Hawks will do much to derail the seven-game run on which the Swans are surging.
Number seven Melbourne Demons play the number 17 North Melbourne Kangaroos, which have lost their last six.
Finally, the number eight Essendon Bombers have the number 10 Western Bulldogs, who have won their last two, albeit against the Blues and Gold Coast, yet the ladder positons of the Dons and the Dogs indicate that this might be a worthwhile match.
Other than that, the Round 19 matchups offer little, other than the potential for a shocker to shake the ladder a bit.
