Jarryd Hayne is no longer newsworthy as a novelty news story based on his attempt to switch codes from rugby to the NFL, but other Australians have risen to the fore. One in particular, Adam Gotsis, is relatively certain to not only make the team, but to receive actual playing time in the regular season as he was selected in the second round of the recently conducted NFL draft.
No Australian has ever been selected higher and Gotsis has recently signed a rookie contract with the current World Champion Denver Broncos. Going so highly drafted more or less assures Gotsis of a spot on the final 53-man regular season roster, provided of course, that he can remain healthy.
Gotsis is projected to receive significant playing time due to the gaping hole created by the free-agent departure of Malik Jackson and Broncos defensive line coach Bill Kollar compares Gotsis favourably with current Denver standout Derek Wolfe.
Even though he went as a high pick in the draft, there is some concern over the effects of an ACL injury that caused his to miss almost his entire as a college player in Georgia, but thanks to modern surgery, ligament damage is not the kiss of death that it at one time was.
