The season proper is now upon us and according to Australian online bookmaker BetEasy, the early money has been for the Warriors ($15) and the Cowboys ($10) to take out the title.
But in a somewhat surprising move, the Rabbitohs have had little support to win back to back flags, despite their odds of $6.00.
“It looks like punters think there’s a possibility of a Premiership hangover,” said BetEasy’s Rob Cumbrae-Stewart.
“So far the most of the money has been outsiders, with the Warriors and Cowboys being the best supported clubs to date.”
In the Top 8 market, the Cowboys have been the best backed team at $1.50.
“Punters have been all over the Cowboys to make the 8, including a bet $10,000 at odds of $1.50.”
In Round 1 betting, the Rabbitohs and the Dragons are the best backed sides.
