Labor’s odds of holding on to the seat of Griffith have shortened from $1.55 into clear-cut $1.18 favouritism with online bookmaker Sportingbet since it was confirmed lawyer Terri Butler would stand as the party’s candidate for the electorate vacated by former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

During the same period over the past three weeks, the Liberal National party’s odds have drifted from $2.40 out to $4.25 at Sportingbet.

“It’s a two-horse race according to the odds but the money has been coming in five to one in favour of Labor and our punters are convinced Ms Butler can put the champagne on ice,” Sportingbet spokesman Andrew Brown said.
